FAQ
Is your matcha 'real' matcha?
Good question, and the answer depends on what you mean by "real."
If "real matcha" means tencha (leaves shade-grown for 3 to 4 weeks, stems removed, leaves steamed) finely ground at a low temperature: then yes, absolutely. This is exactly what we produce in China, with the same technical requirements as the Japanese standards for premium matcha.
If "real matcha" means made in Japan: then no, and we fully accept that. Matcha does not have an international protected designation of origin. The word is not legally reserved for any country. It simply means "ground tea."
Our producers are passionate about matcha and were trained in Japan. We are proud to present you with matcha produced with passion! We therefore let your taste buds judge: what defines the quality of matcha is the process, the harvest, and the traceability, and not the leaf's passport.
Where does your Matcha 奋 Fèn come from?
Our Matcha 奋 Fèn is grown and processed in China, respecting Japanese expertise. Our producer decided to blend several cultivars from different regions in China to create a robust blend revealing notes of roasted hazelnuts and a floral finish, which makes it perfect for lattes! (Or full-bodied usucha for strong tea lovers.)
What does 奋 Fèn mean?
奋 is pronounced Fèn in Mandarin. The character represents a bird spreading its wings to take flight or the energy one mobilizes to launch forward with fervor. We interpreted the character Fèn as "Ardor" in English because this word perfectly bridges what this matcha is and what it inspires one to do: the fiery character of roasted hazelnuts, and the morning energy, determination, the feeling of taking control of your day. This is the matcha you prepare when you've decided to check off every item on your to-do list.
Is your matcha organic?
Our matcha producer, 奋 Fèn, holds JAS and USDA organic certifications, which are the certifications in Japan and the United States.
