Our Matcha
Grown in China, crafted the Japanese way
Our matcha is grown in China — the cradle of tea for over 4,000 years, and the birthplace of the ancestor of matcha.
Since the early 2000s, and on an industrial scale since 2017, a true transfer of expertise has taken place from Japan to China: cultivars, growing techniques, processing machinery, tea master training. The Chinese matcha industry has been built in strict adherence to Japanese methods, and this is the standard our producers apply to every harvest.
Our matcha is Chinese — it has its own identity, its own terroirs, while being produced to Japanese standards. Two cultures brought together in a single powder.
Our producers
Our producers are, first and foremost, matcha enthusiasts. They studied in Japan, travelled to learn, brought Japanese experts into their own facilities. Today, they work to bring matcha back to life in China, after centuries during which the art of whisked powdered tea had deserted its country of origin. They all share the same standard: produce great matcha, without compromise.
Their facilities are certified to the strictest standards — GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and FSSC 22000 — and every batch is produced under rigorous hygiene and quality control conditions.
Behind every Chalala Tea tin, there is a whole local ecosystem. In China, the tea industry has helped families from remote rural areas see their communities develop and access stable incomes. By choosing Chalala Tea, you support these communities too.
What's in your cup
We drink matcha every day. So what ends up in your cup is exactly what ends up in ours.
Our matcha is 100% pure: no additives, no colorings, no sugar. Just tencha, ground into powder.
Because we like to know exactly what we're drinking, just like you. And because we're a bit geeky about it.
